Poppy’s Workshop is a place where craftsmanship, creativity, and compassion come together. What began as a small woodworking effort has grown into three connected pursuits: crafting handmade wooden toys for children in need, creating artistic scroll-saw pieces, and designing scroll-saw patterns that allow others to share in the craft.
One part of our mission is the creation and donation of small, handcrafted wooden toys for children facing difficult circumstances. These toys are distributed through police, fire, medical, and charitable organizations that serve children in need. A simple toy can provide comfort, spark imagination, and remind a child that someone cares. While toy making remains an important part of the workshop’s work, it is now one piece of a broader creative effort.
Poppy’s Workshop is also a space for artistic expression. Using traditional scroll-saw techniques, Poppy creates detailed wooden art pieces inspired by faith, nature, landmarks, and seasonal themes. These works celebrate the beauty of wood, craftsmanship, and storytelling through design. Each piece reflects patience, precision, and a deep respect for the tradition of handmade artistry.
In addition, Poppy designs scroll-saw patterns so that other woodworkers can create their own pieces. Pattern design is a natural extension of the craft, transforming an idea into a form that others can bring to life in their own workshops. By sharing these patterns, Poppy’s Workshop helps keep the tradition of scroll-saw artistry alive and accessible to woodworkers around the world.
The workshop is inspired by the life and legacy of its founder, Richard Fairchild, known to many simply as “Poppy.” Now a grandfather himself, the name honors his own grandfather and the generations of craftsmen who valued skill, patience, and dedication to their work. Those same values guide every project created in the shop today.
Whether it’s a toy that brings comfort to a child, a piece of wooden art that tells a story, or a pattern that inspires another maker, Poppy’s Workshop is rooted in the belief that handmade work still matters. Woodworking connects us to tradition, creativity, and each other.
Thank you for visiting and being part of the journey.
Creating joy, sharing craftsmanship, and keeping the art of woodworking alive.
~Richard "Poppy" Fairchild

A single toy may seem small, but it can spark imagination, provide comfort, and remind a child that they are not forgotten.
